BP shares about its successful partnership with the Paralympic Games
By Rosie Danyluk, Head of Communications and Executive Office, BP
BP has been supporting the Paralympic Movement since July 2008, when we became the Official Oil and Gas Partner for London 2012 Paralympic Games. The Games were a resounding success and partnerships were formed around the world with the teams and athletes, starting a movement across BP. In 2015 Singapore joined the BP Paralympic family and is one of nine countries where local partnerships are thriving.
“Our partnership with the Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) is helping to change perceptions of disability and bring greater awareness to the unique and inspiring power of sport. Our global support of the Paralympic Movement is something BP is very proud of; it embodies our core values of excellence, respect and courage”. Terence Yuen, Country President, BP Singapore.
We are still on our journey and learning more everyday….
- 2015 focused on engaging staff - building a culture of inclusion by demonstrating what our values looked like in others, and changing perceptions of disability.
- 2016 continued the internal programme, and actively built external engagement with key stakeholders, particularly through the Rio Paralympics and joining the SBNoD.
- 2017 onwards we are building the plan to Tokyo 2020 with SNPC, and focusing on employee excitement and inclusion, and updating our HR policies and being a more attractive and inclusive employer (including participating in the SG Enable mentoring programme).
Business has an important role to play in building an inclusive society, as well and improving their working cultures and performance. The work of SBNoD helps organisations access corporate best practice, and connects with important local organisations such as SG Enable.
